Hi there jammers!
Want to know what the number one crime is in the game Animal Jam? You guessed it: scamming. Up to thousands of jammers every week are scammed out of their hard-earned items. However, there are ways you can keep your items safe with you. Just study this Scam-Free hand guide (or paw guide), and know how to recognize a scammer when you see one!
1. If jammers around the jammer in question are calling him/her out for being a scammer, it is best to leave the scene, even if the jammer in question is promising you an amazing item like a spike collar.
2. If the jammer in question brings lots of jammers to their den saying they're going to give away a spike collar or something like that, you can go to their den but just observe carefully what they're doing. Ask them to wear the Spike Collar for proof---if they refuse or avoid the question leave immediately, as they most likely don't even have the item they're claiming to give away. If you choose to stay, watch for this second clue: The jammer in question will put horrible items on trade like a 45 gem necklace and a purple mat. They will then say that whoever trades them the best will get the amazing prize, and that they will decline the trades they are given. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!!!! They will probably decline the first few trades, but as soon as they get a trade they really like, they will accept it and skedaddle! If you see any jammers doing this, warn everyone else in the den immediately and then leave yourself! When I was a new jammer I fell for this scam, ending up in me losing a rare party hat among other things.
3. If you are suspicious of a jammer being a scammer, check their player card. Scammers are 90 % more likely to have their dens locked so they can hide in there and not be chased by other jammers. However, this does not mean that all suspicious jammers with locked dens are scammers. Just avoid them all together if you aren't sure.
4. A scammer will always deny they are a scammer. They may even pretend to cry to gain your sympathy, or build a false friendship with you. Do not cave in for them, because they don't mean anything they're saying. They're just trying to trick you into giving them the items they want from you. Block them and leave.
5. This sort of goes with 4. Scammers are highly sensitive and emotional, but they only pretend to be.
6. If the jammer in question says send me *insert random item here* I'll send you back *insert amazing item here*! Do not send them that item unless you have 20 of them and you absolutely want to. 99.9 % of the time, they will not send that amazing item they promised back to you. Sometimes they will flee right after getting the gift, but some other scammers will stay in the jamaa township or wherever they're doing the scam even after you've sent the jamagrams. They will claim that you didn't send them the right item, and continue cheating still other jammers out of their items. Do not believe that you actually sent the wrong item. You saw what you sent with your own eyes, and there has NEVER been a case of items suddenly changing in the jam-a-grams. Block the jammer and leave the area.
7. If the jammer in question asks to try on a certain clothing item you have, unless you don't care about the item or are extreme best friends with them in the game and in real life, don't send them the clothing item. If they really wanted to see how it looked on themselves, just change into their animal, look like them in every way, and wear the item they wanted to try on. If they get frustrated, they were most likely trying to scam. Ignore any other antics to get you to click the send button.
Thanks for reading and becoming a little more scam-safe than you were before!
I will add much more later
Sincerely,
Polar
